Emmett Plant Exits as Xiph.Org CEO

The Xiph.Org Foundation today announced the termination of its contracting relationship with Emmett Plant. He served as acting CEO since May 2002, working to build relationships with certain strategic partners in order to further the Foundation's efforts.

The Foundation is a publicly supported non-profit corporation that was recently granted a favorable advance ruling on 501(c)(3) exemption by the IRS. In accordance with this ruling, the Foundation will enter a new phase of planning and operation. Xiph.Org will be focusing its financial efforts in order to develop public funding sources and will be announcing several initiatives toward that end in the next few months.

The Foundation provides a home for a collection of open source multimedia-related projects. The Foundation’s purpose is to support and develop free, open protocols and superior software to serve the public, developers and business markets.
