libOpus 1.1 released
Xiph.Org is pleased to announce that after more than two years of development, we've released Opus 1.1.
The 1.1 release includes:
- New analysis code and tuning that significantly improves encoding quality, especially for variable-bitrate (VBR)
- Automatic, dynamic detection of speech or music to decide the optimal encoding mode on the fly
- Additional surround tuning for 5.1 and 7.1 encoding from 45kbps (that's total bitrate, not per-channel), and high quality surround starting at around 128kbps.
- Speed improvements on all architectures, especially ARM, where decoding uses around 40% less CPU and encoding uses around 30% less CPU.
Of course, the libopus 1.1 release is still fully compliant with the official Opus specification (RFC 6716). Download it from the website at http://opus-codec.org/
Opus 1.1 improvements are further explained in a detailed demo and documentation page at http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/opus/demo3.shtml
Cheers!
